The Challenges

Waste Management

Youth Unemployment

Youth Unemployment

In Nairobi, 3200 tonnes of waste is generated everyday. As waste management is an unaffordable luxury, youth groups try to clear landfills, but with infrastructure lacking, waste ends up in rivers or is burned.

Youth Unemployment

Youth Unemployment

Youth Unemployment

In Kenya, 35% of 15 to 24 years olds are unemployed. Youths have the highest unemployment rates in Kenya, with women effected the most.

Food insecurity

Youth Unemployment

Food insecurity

With the cost of living and unemployment high, many in the community suffer from food insecurity as they struggle to afford or obtain sufficient nutrition.

Living in Mathare is one of the most difficult things as a youth. My community was very dirty. We need to overcome the challenge of the waste to help the community avoid diseases.

Felix Omondi, Youth Group Leader
