At Taka Taka Zero, we transform non-recyclable waste into sustainable energy—tackling environmental challenges while creating economic opportunities in informal settlements.

We believe that young people have the power to drive lasting change but often lack the tools, infrastructure, and support to do so. That is why we partner with passionate individuals and youth groups already taking action by cleaning their neighbourhoods, raising awareness, and leading local climate initiatives. By working with Taka Taka Zero, they gain access to an innovative solution for the waste they collect, turning it into fuel, income and impact.

Our team collects waste from streets and households, which is then incinerated using the Community Cooker (CC)—an innovative Kenyan technology developed by the Community Cooker Foundation. This environmentally safe process not only eliminates waste responsibly but also converts it into heat energy, used for cooking food and boiling water. The food products created are sold within the community, generating income to pay our employees. 

We view waste as a renewable resource that fuels a complex value chain, not only cleaning the community but also creating economic opportunities.
